Hi guys I am trying to power on my new computer build but for some reason it won't boot to the screen? the motherboard light is in, the power supply seems to be working and the tower lights are on. I have a asus m2a mvp motherboard. I tryed to swap out the video card for a regular pci card and picture still doesn't show. now i am also running a amd phenom cpu. could this be the problem??? it does say that i need to reflash the bios but do i have to put another cpu in to do that? please help!!what are ways that i could tell if the motherboard is just dead?

Does it beep at all? Have you tried to swap ram sticks?

My guess is you shorted it.. but its too early to say

there is just a light that comes on and off. um i do have two hyper x sticks in there but i'll try another stick hold on.

follow my troubleshooting guide to trace the problem but double and triple check you havent missed one of the power plugs or used the wrong one

Make sure you have the power button and led plugs in the right slot.. I know I messed that up on my current rig and it did somthing similar.

did you plug you video card in :P and is you HD set to master

tryed a 1gb 533 mhz ddr2 stick and still doesn't come up. the cpu fan comes on as well.

yeah i accdiently pluged in 6pin connector that only had 5 pins in it yesterday. but since that i bought another power supply and the card seems to come on. the fan comes on.

try moving the cpu heat sink a little to see if its a loose conection my old motherboard had that

i'll be right back guys.. what can cause the motherboard to short?

If you have it mounted wrong on the case, like if its not spaced enough from the metal parts.

trying taking the motherboard off the case and booting

so when you say you shorted it, that it was incorrectly installed? well another thing came to mind ... i did use really small screws to install the board could that be the problem?

Well, if he shorted his mobo, chances are none of the indicator lights on the board would work.

Also, if he doesn't have his HDD set to master, he would at least be able to boot into his bios.

You could have a board with a corrupted bios. Try clearing the CMOS and see if that will let you boot.

EDIT saw your post. If you screwed your board directly onto the mobo tray, you will short it. You have to use the little riser pieces that came with your case to lift the board off the tray. The board will sit on these risers to avoid metal contact from the board to the tray. They're about 1/4 inch tall.

okay i'll reinstall the board and get back to you guys thanks!

my abit at8 shorted everything worked turned on fans ran but no screen at all wen i puld it away from the case it would boot :P
