Help! new lappy and it doesn't recognize the HD!

you have to go into bios, then goto Advanced --> Advanced Chipset features and disable Intel Robson because XP does not support this. After that you should be able to install XP just fine. I'm not sure about an XP Home SP1 CD but that's all I had to do for an XP Pro SP2 CD :)

Id ring the company up get them to post a usable xp disk with sp2 and the drivers for the laptop if they are build into xp asap!!
I mean sp2 has been out long enough for it to be supplied on the disk.
Its a bit of a raw deal if you ask me you shouldnt have any problems with a brand new machine everything should be there for it to run ok.

Id be extremely angry. i'd want what i paid for.

but he didnt pay for an OS to come with the laptop. SP2 CDs do work with sager laptops as long as you disable Robson like I mentioned.
if your harddrive still cannot be read after disabling robson, then you need to hit F6 during windows setup and use a floppy to install the proper drivers:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&OSFullName=Windows* XP Home Edition&lang=eng
that is the one you would download for your sager 5792

a lot of users who are buying new laptops these days are going to have to disable robson if they want to install windows xp

Well when i bought my laptop a year or so ago it was a xp disk that was tied to that laptop it had all the laptops drivers preinstalled i couldnt use the disk on another machine.
