[HELP] PC won't boot with minimum components and it keeps restarting

Greetings!

I really hope you can help me. I was just browsing the internet and all the sudden my PC froze. I restarted my PC and after the booting phase I received a windows "bad system config" error that my PC ran into a problem and needed restart. After the first restart I received the same error. I turned off my PC and after boot it began the troubleshooting stage. I managed to use an old copy of my system through the system restore feature and I was finally at desktop. I turned off my pc and I wanted to boot up again to see if everything was fine but at that point the POST problems began.

I turned on my PC, I heard the POST beep with no display and after some seconds the system restarted. My system was now on this restart loop.
I began to troubleshoot by disconnecting and connecting the components and the peripherals one by one.
So now I left connected only the PSU, CPU, MOBO and 1 stick of RAM. With these components connected this is how the system behaves after I turn in on: first restart, one beep noise, no display, second restart, one beep noise, no display, third restart, one beep noise, now I have display for a short duration and all I can see is UEFI Gygabite and after this the system takes it again from the beginning with a restart.

I tried to turn on my PC without the ram stick and only with the PSU and CPU connected to the motherboard. After I turn it on with this config, the pc makes several rapid short beeps.

If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated!

Whats the full spec of your setup? Also list the make and model of your power supply
 
One of the components has gone bad.

You'll need to test / stress test / replace each component until you find out which one is causing the problems.

You can't POST without RAM at all. Test each stick and leave the one working.

If there is dust or dirt, blow with hair dryer on the cold setting.

Edit: I also tested each RAM stick one in each slot.
 
might wanna reseat your cooling.
 
CPUs don't have legs and cannot move around on their own.

It's PSU or RAM or motherboard. Recent Corsair PSUs are known to be bad.
 
I must insist you get a better power supply. Throw that 2012 GS700 out and get a good seasonic or EVGA. mid range corsairs are also ok to use. HX, TX RM/RMx - all that is fine.

couldn't possibly the thermal paste being old or something...
i honestly don't even know why i post anything on the internet -_-

Sounds like a PS to me. The CM line is notorious for bad quality.
 
There are CPU testers you can buy sure, but just put that cash towards a new PS is the safe route.

True. but cheap bad quality PSUs are usually a dead giveaway.

That power supply is old anyway and it was never really a good unit to begin with. A good power supply will carry you through multiple builds. Ive had power supplies that have been through 3 or 4 different builds that are still going so its always worth investing in a good one.

The PSU fan is spinning but if I listen closely I can hear a sound coming from the fan.

Something new: Now when I turn on the pc, it shuts off after a few seconds but it doesn't turn on again by itself. So there's no restart.

Get a new PSU
 
PSU or SSD have gone bad.
Remove the WD HDD and try without it.
 
I agree with FreedomEclipse. At least borrow a known good PSU and swap that in there. Since everything inside the computer case depends on good, clean power, you need to verify you are providing it. So swapping in a known good PSU is how you do that, and where proper troubleshooting needs to start.

TIM (thermal interface material) never has to be replaced just because it is X number of years old. Never! It will easily last 5, 10, 15 years and longer AS LONG AS the cured bond between the two mating surfaces is not broken. And the bond would not be broken unless the computer was drop kicked or the heat sink was removed by the user. Even if the TIM dries out, the solids that remain behind are still filling the microscopic pits and valleys in the mating surfaces, preventing insulating air from getting in.

If the computer needs the few degrees a fresh application of new TIM might provide to keep from crossing over thermal protection thresholds, the temps are already too close to that threshold to begin with - meaning there are other more critical cooling deficiencies to address first, like case cooling.

Note there is not one TIM maker, cooler maker, CPU or GPU maker, motherboard or computer maker who says to replace the TIM based on years of use. Not one!
 
Ok, so after I tried a borrowed psu, it turns out that mine is almost dead. Somehow it doesn't even have enough power to turn on the system. All my other components are fine. For now.

Get a GOOD replacement. If you dont know if one is good or not just ask here before you buy.
