Hi,

I'm having a strange issue with my RX 480. Most of the games shows a GPU usage of 0% during gaming. When GPU-Z or other software registers 0% I don't lose any FPS so I really don't understand why this happens.

Theres a bit of a GPU-Z log playing GTA:SA at 100fps:

GPU Load [%]:

When the game was using 0% of the GPU I didn't had any performance problems!

This doesn't happen with very demanding games.

I know that a game like GTA:SA is old and easy to run for a RX 480, but again, 0% GPU usage doesn't seems normal.

Specs:

Sapphire Nitro+ RX480 8GB OC (11260-01)
i5-3450 3.1 GHz (3.5Ghz Turbo Boost)
ASUS P8B75-M LX
2x KINGSTON HYPERX 4GB DDR3 1600MHZ
XFX PRO SERIES 650W Core Edition

Temperatures are ok.

Thanks.

Interesting. For starters, what GPU-z are you using. Is it by chance pre-RX480?

It's the latest version 1.11.0

Latest drivers too (tried some other previous drivers but the behavior is the same).

Run a benchmark.

I've see similar stuff with R9 380, in Arma 3 - GPU-Z showed GPU usage spikes from 0 to 100% few times per second while FPS would remain stable. Funnily enough i could only reproduce this while playing online. Playing Arma 3 single player gave me pretty much constant 100% GPU load.

Tested with MSI Afterburner latest beta + BF3 on a server with 20 players:
