Hi guys! so I'm having issues with the power management of this card, with the stock bios its using between 300~320w at most resulting in lower frequencies, the weird issue is that the power limit its broken.

So I just flashed the bios to the AMP version and it seems to be working a little bit better, though the power limit slider its still broken.

Stock bios behavior:

After flashing and using this bios: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/238725/238725

@eidairaman1

Does it work to send the GPU-Z screenshots using this new bios? or I need to use the original one? I got the backup.

Because I am also having this weird issue where I have to "play" with the power limit for it to hit the 100% (110% its not working). It seems like an issue with the bios to me.

https://www.loom.com/share/b156015ef86049b6abe07ee837ab4a69 (I fixed it on minute 1:08)

Should I try using a Zotac AMP bios but a different version? I don't know if I'm using the "best one" or a bugged one.

Update #1: I got back to the original bios and now the power limit is hitting 100% and working like the other version, but the slider is not working

Thank you again!

Your video card has a power limit of 385 Watts. 100% is 350. 110% = 385W.

In your first video you aren't even drawing 100%. Raising the power limit without changing the frequency offset isn't going to draw more power since you weren't bouncing off the limit anyways.

The second video in-game seems like your CPU bound because neither did your frequency increase or wattage when you raised the limit. Try a different title or higher resolution.

I'm not sure, I tried furmark at 1440p and is the same power draw

Done! what do you need from GPU-Z?

I'm using this bios now https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/234020/zotac-rtx3080ti-12288-210420 (working really nice actually) but it's not working with the display port and CSM support disabled, maybe I need the same bios but updated? when csm is disabled it works through hdmi only

Its due to using a bios not designed for your specific card.

Your card is a Trinity, not a

AMP Holo Black

So you are not using the stock bios still

I am I took all the screenshot from the stock bios, but I tried this version of the amp Holo and worked fine https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/238725/238725 its just that it doesn't perform as good as this one I think

Maybe they didn't have resize bar supported

I've got all the screenshots from all the tabs but I don't know if you need all of it

hi @eidairaman1 All the screenshots I got are from the original stock bios, if you can help me I would really appreciate it, I think trying other bioses for this weird power limit will be fun as well.

Hello
As far as i can see, your card can draw a max of 110%.
But that max is achieved only when several factors are reached simultaneously.
That power can't be drawn all the time and to be honest i do not think some card producer would think about that.

Hello! I understand but I have never encounter any scenario where it uses 110% power draw usually its between 90-95% no matter what I try

So, please be so kind and explain us why in the world would you want to draw more power?
The card itself and the BIOS are paired so you will have the max performance at the designated power consumption.
Would you like to modd the card to draw more power to use it later in mining environment ?
That would make sense....

I'm not planning on mining, I just like overclock and I thought that 110% more power draw was going to be more than enough to have some overclock headroom but the power slider its not working so I'm stuck at 90-95% which means almost 0 headroom to overclock, when I play at 4k the clock sits between 1700-1800, with more power draw would be at 1800-2000 for sure

Well yes, in theory that is exactly what you calculated.
But in practice the card producer would never allow the card to work at that high amount of power for a long period of time.
They calibrated the cooling system UP TO 110%, but that was tested for a short period of time.
They never intended to use the card at that high power draw for longer periods, because that would result in more heat.
More heat = bigger problems.
So basically this is a short description of why you have the power at 90-95%
Yes you could modd the BIOS but i wouldn't do that except if you are a pro in modding.
Else i would use software to OC it as much as i can.

Thanks impero, thats true and heat on these cards are a concern for sure, but if I could get more power draw I would get a water cooling system for the card but since it's locked right now doesn't make sense, do you know anyone who could mod the bios?

More power doesn't equal more clocks with these cards. If the VBIOS is programmed to hit 1890MHz at 80c you're not getting a MHz more until the cards cools down. Giving the card more power does absolutely nothing. With these cards you're better off with tuning the frequency curve in MSI Afterburner. There are some great tutorials on Reddit and YouTube :) It will only draw more power, when the temperature allows it. You're most likely limited by temps I guess. Editing the frequency curve raises the clock for that specific voltage. It's a bit of work but worth it.

HI! Thanks, I have a curve from afterburner and it's still really power limited I don't think 320w it's enough for these cards to perform at the best level, so I would use watercooling for the card if I could get more power

Hey eidaira, then the only thing I could do is a shunt mod but I don't think I will because I don't have any experience with soldering, do you know any bios from other brands that I could flash and try? The last one I tried was from evga the xc3 ultra which is supposed to unlock the power to 366w but it was still locked on mine

I don't see why you're concerned about maybe squeezing another 5% out of your GPU, it won't really make a lick of difference in the end.

I like overclock it's fun to get the most of your cpu, gpu, ram, etc. So I do it for fun and benchmarks, I think I should just bought the evga with 3x8 pins, but sometimes being limited could be fun as well, too bad that there are no modded bioses though, I remember having fun with my 970 with that in the past

Let me put it this way: Can you afford to lose the card and replace it with something you'd be happy/satisfied with? Don't take it the wrong way, I like hardware as much as everyone else ( check my profile picture, says enough) but fucking around with hardware does come at a risk. I've cross flashed loads of GPU's, edited them to crap and back and I've bricked shit. I've got a 3080 Ti as well, they're expensive as hell. I can afford to immediately replace it but it would be massive gut punch, it isn't worth the risk to me. And that's coming from a guy that hot plugged running GPU's, dishwashed motherboards, GPU's, and soldered fuck all.

Just think about it. And while you're thinking about it, stare at my latest masterpiece  Have a good one!

EDIT: If you do want to learn how to solder, don't delay, start today. It's a useful skill ;)

Wow haha that's wild, I'm thinking to replace it as soon as the 40 series comes out but will also consider amd if the raytracing performance it's on par, well if I were crazy enough I would just shunt mod without soldering knowledge, so I think just trying other bioses is the "safest" way
