Right ! So here is my situation.

-Currently, important data takes over approximately 1.5 terabytes., pictures, videos, books and seminars, music.
- I have two WD Red drives connected inside my PC.
- I use Backup4ALL Professional to do a daily automated "Mirror" of the main drive to the backup drive.
- I delete a lot, so the mirror backup is set to delete files from the destination if it sees that I deleted it from Source - This is very important to me !

So, I have two identical copies of the data, but all inside my computer. Both as easily accessible, the software doesn't Image the data, it just puts everything as is on the other drive.

-Now, once a week, I connect a THIRD WD Red to a USB Cradle, and run another Mirror off the main PC drive. This drive hangs around. sometimes it's in the room, sometimes in my backpack etc etc...

- The very CORE of the important data, is stored on a Corsair 128GB Voyager drive.

Now to the questioning:

- Am I running a decent "backup" setup ?
- Am I as efficient as I can be ? Which leads me to question 3....
- If I buy one of those 2-bay NAS machines - What ADVANTAGE do I earn besides network capacities, over what I am doing ? And, if I do get a NAS, that means I can take out both of the WD Reds off my PC ( I boot with ssd) and stick them in the NAS Machine ? The internal HDD's will no longer be needed, correct ?
- Is a NAS capable of the same full-mirror backup, where even deleted files on one drive are deleted from the other ? Is it NAS specific, and if so, which ones are able to do that ?

Thanks for any tips !

The one big advantage of a NAS is you take the work load off your system completely. You can use the same software if you like and there are many others. The other advantage is a NAS can email you to tell you something is wrong with a drive. Also you can use your drives.

Just one other thing, the Voyager is a great USB drive but its still volatile memory. Flash memory has risks of its own. Back it up

I see ! So when I get a 2-bay NAS, to preserve my "full mirror" capability with Backup4ALL, I will need to NOT use any of the "raid" offerings of that NAS unit ? It's just a matter of hooking up my Reds to the NAS and setting up Backup4ALL on the master PC to do a nightly automated mirror over the network ?

Raid 1 is mirrored. One drive will be copy of the other

There is a bit of a learning curve. Watch some Synology videos
