Hey,

So recently my boot decided to have the option between "Windows 7" and "Windows 7" on startup... The first one gives me an error, the second is my actual Windows 7 install.

I need to know which to delete on this list, so that i don't have to watch my boot... haha.

This is it:

Thanks.

I've just opened up msconfig, from what I can tell the bottom one is your current OS, so its the top one you need to delete. Note you'll probably have to set the current os to default before it will let you delete the other one.

I'm sure there used to be an option to check all boot paths....maybe that was on XP though....

No offense, but i'll wait for some more answers before i make a move.

Don't want to delete/disable the one im using...

this isnt related to partitions at all, its just an extra entry in your boot.ini file.

you say the first one it tries to loads fails - that would be default. as in the first, default option (zing!)
The second one says current OS - which would be the one you're currently on.

Logic makes it all so simple! delete the first one!

The first one doesnt even have a drive letter, which is kinda weird.

Aye, thats my conclusion but he doesn't trust me, LOL

It's not that i didn't trust you, it's just i wanted more than one 'yes' on the same option.

I've deleted the top on and set the 'Current' to be default.

Once this Patch for FarCry 1 has downloaded, i'll reboot and see.

Only joking, I'm pretty certain that'll do the job. BTW, which OS are you installing Far Cry 1 on? I tried the other day out of curiousity, but it wouldn't work no matter what compatability mode I tried.

Ok, on my other computer atm...

Restarted, it gets to the Windows 7 logo (Spinning colour thing) and i get a Blue Screen that says:

Bad_System_config_Info

Then reboots...

Advice?

Microsoft.com claims it as a result of Bad Ram... I've been using this RAM for over 6months...

Do you know what the definition of broken is? something that worked fine, until it didnt.

Just cause its 6 months old, doesnt mean it cant have crapped itself.

I'm not stupid. But it's abit odd that i change one boot option then bam.. I need new RAM because some perfectly fine RAM has mysteriously broken within a boot...

MS Claims i need to boot with only one stick, ill try that.

Hmmm, have you tried F8 "last known good configuration"?

I'll try that now.

Ok, neither stick on it's own works and some RAM i've just pulled from the media center that worked this morning gives the same error.

Gunna try the OCZ in my other PC and then the F8.

Ok, i've put the OCZ in my 2nd PC, typing this with it now.

Tried some Kingston from my 2nd PC and i get the same Blue Screen.

Is this pointing to a re-install of windows?

I'll try that F8 now.

Edit: That F8 gave the same message :(

Looking likely to be honest... Can't understand it though, I've deleted entries from that boot screen before without issue, and if you set the current os as default and deleted the other one then that should have worked...

Thats what i thought...

Hate starting from a fresh on windows...

Really? I love it, but then I am a bit sick like that...

No, don't get me wrong, i love the clean-ness.

But i HATE having to re-install everything, replace all bookmarks etc.

If you re-name one of the boot entries to something like "test" and then check whether the functional entry on the select os screen has changed (geddit ?) , you can check which is the one to use ..

Bit late for that now... lol.

Im moving everything across to a spare Hard-Drive now...

200GB later... haha

Before I would reinstall Win7, I would put the Win 7 DVD in. Boot from it and repair startup.

Good call, forgot about that....

You probably could have just used easybcd to rewrite the mbr for vista then delete the win7 partition with disk management. Thats what i do when i run vista and linux

I've already formatted.

Moved up to a newer version of Windows 7 anyways.

Just moving things back across... 200GB... Urgh.
