I got this monitor its my mother in-laws and its behaving strange

if you power down the monitor for any given length of time, it has to be over 30 mins or so upon powering up the display color is heavily saturated with red, you've heard the term rose colored glasses.

If you go into the monitor menu and hit reset the picture is beautiful again, any ideas whats the problem?
I dont have the manual for the monitor so a few settings I'm clueless on..I've been to HP site and dl the Win7 driver but its still happening

After a bit of googling, it appears that more people are having the problem of this monitors settings not sticking. Looks like a design flaw or hardware failure problem.
I didn't see any definitive fixes for it, so if it's new, send it back for a refund and get something else.
If it's not new, sell it on e-bay and get something else. :D

Do monitors have batteries in them or something that keeps circuits going? I don't remember really.

Normally not, they simply utilize a little line voltage (like < 1 watt) to maintain things.
Similar to TVs that have clocks and such.

@Grn : Does the monitor do this only when hibernating, or when you shut it off too.?

I leave the rig running and I just power off the monitor, I keep all power management off
When I return 20-30 mins later it happens. If I try 2 mins, 10 mins 15 mins apart it wont happen, only after about 20 or so mins will the color go red

In the menu there are options for 9300k 6500k and sRGB I had it set to 6500k and I'm trying sRGB, so far it has not washed to red... my other annoyance is the monitor language keeps resetting to Dutch :shadedshu but that I can live with.

The monitor is new but dayum I got a hell of a deal on it so I would like to make it work if possible and not return it

Someone else on the webz complained of their monitor resetting to another language too.
Definitely sounds like problems inherent to these particular HP monitors.

Called HP... there solution and I quote

" press and hold the menu button for 10 seconds, this will lock the menu and should prevent the issue from happening again"

So I'm 4 hours in testing there theory and the buggers were right its actually working... so far :D
you think maybe they would post this nugget on there web site
