I had a customer buy a new hp desktop from the office supply place i work at. He manage to short his mainboard by using tin snip on the brackets that hold cards in. He gave me the case mainboard processor and power supply after i removed his ram, hard drive, and installed the video card he needed. The processor fine AMD X2 4800 (2.5ghz clock. I have a half working mainboard that i need to replace that half post and half not post depending on the alignment of the stars. Need some mainboard recommend to me. Looking to put my 3870 HIS 512 card in this system so looking for AMD chipset with 2 PCI express slots (2.0). Not a big overclocker will push it a little maybe 2.8ghz max.

Give me name and model number so i can get a idea of my choses.

Looked at ABIT 770 board and also a MSI 790 board.

If they can support phenom that a plus to me.

The half working board was another donation to me and is a rebranded ASUS that only has drivers for Vista. I think they called it a Narru.

Any help appreciated.

PS looking to spend no more than $135 as i will probley have to buy a OS to load on this system.

Going to try to convince Microsoft to let me loaded my Legal and purchased copy of XP Professional on this system since Lightning blew the one it was purchased for to hell and back.

(This is what i lost my download machine)
Lost 2500 Barton 2gb ram, 320gb,250gb,160gb hard drives ATI X1600Pro 512MB , TV capture card,Sound Blaster Audiology 2 platinum , 4port USB 2.0 card, 2 DVD burners, 2 Samsung 17 LCD monitors, Linksys Router 2.4ghz, DSL modem, 250 GB Network Hard Drive, 3 surge protector (not wal-mart special) and APC 550V Battery backup.

perhaps a biostar tforce 790fx?

this gigabyte GA MA790X is perfect. The egg has it for 139.99 plus free shipping. It will more than do 2.8 for you.

He needs an AM2/Am2+ board, not intel. Also this board will support a Phenom and DDR21066 memory (with a phenom only, not regular AM2s)
