hi, my friend gave me a Compaq Armada 1592DT laptop, it currently has 32MB of RAM , and i have just looked at it and it has one slot for RAM, it has a Pentium MMX 233MHz processor . 32MB of RAM is not enough to install XP (and even if it was i dont think it would be worth upgrading from Windows 98SE). I just saw a stick of 256mb RAM on eBay for it and won it for 99p (99 english pennies lol) but i have just done a quick search on the internet and it says this laptop supports a maximum of 96MB RAM, so what would happen when i put the 256MB stick in? would it boot and only have a maximum usable 96MB RAM, or not boot at all?

no boot there.

oh dear :ohwell:, that was a big waste of £1 lol

thanks for the help

those old SDRAM mobos are very picky, i wasted money on shipping and restocking in trying upgrade my old laptop and then gave up. My PIII lappy is still running with 256mb and XP SP1 lol.

Windows 98E wouldn't run bad at all with 96MB of RAM Link
