Hi everyone
I'm hoping to be able to grab at least one, or possibly two PSU's in the not to distant future for a couple of existing builds I have that I would like to get back up and running
I'm also considering a few new builds and I was hoping for a few suggestions and thoughts for them
I'm looking for a PSU for my SR-2 build, previously it had a pair of X5650's in but I'm hoping that I can put in some slightly different CPUs as the X5650's will be going in my Dell R710 server.. I'm hoping to use it a little bit towards the WCG crunching TPU does, so I was wondering if a 850w unit would be plenty for whats in there? I'm considering a 7970 or a RX 480 as a card to use.. Would that be enough and give me enough spare power in return? I was looking to take it from water cooling to air cooling, what sort of coolers would anyone suggest I could use with the board/setup? It'll be maybe overclocked if the power usage doesn't go crazy but crunching with an X58, I'm not sure is ever going to be efficient!
I've also a 4770k Z97 setup, but I was guessing that a 550w to 650w unit would be more than enough for that?? I was also looking at a Ryzen build or two (1700's I'm toying with) as well, but again a 550w to 650w for just crunching and the odd bit of gaming would be more than enough for that??
Now for the overkill build I'm really hoping to get finished...
I have an X99, 5960X, 32Gb of ram that I have had for over two years now that I have yet to get finished and built.. I was planning on making it a complete overkill build with two custom loops for cooling and hopefully, M.2/SSD only storage as it was going to be used as a gaming only rig. I bought a 1070 to start with but I'm ideally looking to run 3 4k panels (maybe 120Hz) as well but at the moment, I've just got 3 1080P panels that I'd use instead..
I've seen the 8 Pack SuperFlower unit, the 2000w model and I thought for a bit of overkill, that would fit the bill nicely.. Considering the price of the unit and what others are costing, I half wondered if it would fit the bill nicely but I think it might be a little bit much, even for a total overkill build...??
What might anyone suggest for PSU's, sizes and such?? I'm not so happy with Corsair AX i units, having had a few that have gone wrong (shall we say..) I'd like to avoid them... Looking forward to some suggestions Thank you in advance
