I'm not to sure of what to do for the static electricity. I'm putting my computer together on a wood table, and I have to go best buy tommarow. Can I get a wrist strap from there? I couldn't find it on their site. I have pets that I'm going to keep in a room for a while. Is there anything else I need to worry about for static, and should I wipe off the table, or could that hurt the computer?

Yeah, just keep it off the carpet. If you're going into the case, just make sure you're well grounded. Instead of using a wrist strap, I just touch the frame of the case before touching components.

Hold on to the case or something, wear a watch. Really, as long as you aren't rubbing your feet on carpet in a very dry climate, it's nothing to worry about. I've been building stuff for a while I don't even think about it aside from not building a system on a carpet or something.

I'm building a computer, and the table is on a carpet, should I roll it up, and keep my socks off?

Heh, I never have socks on and that usually keeps static to a minimum. Socks on shaggy carpet = static electricity.

But, I do have a fancy, facility-grounded ESD bracelet: Ideal Stat-Gard #61-038

I loves it but I don't use it as often as I should...

no need to roll it up, just stay grounded by touching some metal before touching the components.

I don't have to worry about static for some reason. I have built a lot of rigs and never had anything fry due to static. Tho I do all my builds in my room which is wooden floor so..

Ok, I went ahead and bought the wrist straps, so what do I attach them to, to gorund myself?
