hi i have this model
HL-DT-STBD-RE__WH16NS40_1 perfect working order except a long while back i followed mfg recommendation to flash firmware for win 11 64 bit ... now it wont read ... still gets recognized by windows try opens from windows but says no disc plz help its such a nice player

That's a first, I've never heard of a modern Blu-ray drive receive a firmware upgrade to run on a modern version of Windows.

My guess is that you updated its firmware with the image intended for a newer revision of your drive, as I understand, newer drives sold as NS40 have the same hardware as some newer models.

Has your drive been manufactured after or before February 2019? If it's an older unit this is probably what happened. This thread is probably the best resource I could find:

If your drive was working why on Earth did you flash it?

drive is from 2013

Sounds like it's got the wrong firmware and needs to be flashed to another one
can you post a photo of the devices label so the same mistake isn't made twice?

That MakeMKV thread above has info on this with several different revisions existing
