I find it interesting that the most used piece of computer hardware, the piece we stare at the most and the longest, gets the least amount of consideration by the average (and not so average) computer user (gamers not excluded). It's as if people's brains go into standby mode regarding image quality.

We spend hundreds if not thousands of $$$ for motherboards, processors and graphics cards but when it comes to the display well, what can I say?

I finally gave in a bought an ASUS VE247 and it's a nice monitor but it doesn't have anywhere near the evenness across it's display as the used 19" Trinitron CRT I just picked up today, not to mention the color saturation.

My concern is for when these low cost Trinitron monitors are no longer available.

If you're interested in a really good, truth/fact filled write up about CRT vs LCD monitors give this a try ...

Unfortunately, that is a piece of not enough interest to people. Anyway i still have my old 17" viewsonic the guy is talking about :P

That kind of goes with the territory. You may want to do a little research into panel types. The vast majority of lcd monitors on the market now including the one that you purchased use an inexpensive TN panel. They aren't necessarily bad and their response time is very good but the viewing angles are awful, they tend to have color shift across the monitor like you noticed, the color accuracy is subpar, and the black levels are also pretty poor. The larger the monitor the more pronounced these issues become.

You can buy better monitors with superior panel types like the NEC EA231WMi which uses an IPS panel, e-IPS I think. These types of monitors tend to cost more, usually quite a bit more and have their own pros and cons.

It's just not a very popular topic here. There is quite a bit of info in the display section at H and it's normally pretty active.
