My goal is to build a modest yet effective AI workstation featuring an Intel Core i9*13900KS processor, an ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Extreme motherboard, and a Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card.

I have trouble figuring out how to get 128GB RAM that is compatible. I read so much about DD5 and populating all four of the DIMM slots that I am truly scared to commit.

I hope I don't have to wait for a new processor with a Quad channel that maybe even fulfills the LGA 1700's 198 GB capability, Who knows when?

Needless to say, any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

Interesting. Good to know. I don't have any 2x48GB kits to try it out myself yet.
I do. I'm running 2x48GB G.Skills at 6800MHz (XMP) and it's wonderful. Sure, going from 128GB DDR4 to 96GB DDR5 wasn't part of the plan, but it's still plenty with a fantastic speed!

Is ddr4 out of the question? It would be a lot more likely to just work.

I've gotten 4x32GB stable at 3800, but not 4000. I'm sure someone out there can. Honestly, 128GB DDR4-3600 (Gear 1) will be better than DDR5-4400 performance wise in a lot of applications.
Yeah thats kind of what I was thinking, 4x32gb 3600 cl18 ddr4, but idk how that would impact his workloads, probably not positively, but its also half the price, so there's that.
