hey a friend of mine just got two laptops (dell latitude C600's) old but will run xp ok. anyway one is for parts and the other runs fine. he gave them both to me to fix a overheating issue and i noticed that the "parts" computer has a slightly faster cpu a whopping 850Mhz :D anyway the parts mobo has a power on password and i cant get past it. they were old office computers from his girlfriends job that they were given. but there is no way to find out who the laptop belonged to to get the password. here is a screenie.

did you try the reset hole some where underneath?

Harddrive password ,then replace the harddrive

try clearing the bios by removing a battery, on some comps the circle battery is under the slot where the big battery goes, so you have to remove the battery to access the small one.

i removed the main battery. if you look at the first pic the only thing on the computer is the mobo keyboard and monitor. i removed all plastic, hdd, cd rom, battery...everything. and still a no go. i left the green cmos battery unplugged over night too.

I had an Inspiron with the same problem. The ONLY thing I could do was call DELL :banghead: If you can get through, the will ask all sorts of questions, I assume to make sure it isn't stolen. I did get the "Master Key" from them and was up and running. I think there is some sort of firmware burnt in with the password, and clearing CMOS will not get rid of it. You will need the system service tag.
