hi I just bought a samsung 850 evo 256gb and I want to see if I can improve anything?

-does the sata cable has to be rated sata3 or any sata cable from 10 years ago?
-what about optimization software settings, what software from samsung or other?
-no defrag?
-how to check it's smart health.
-any other thing? like dust or change OS? I'm on windows 7.

SATA cable is a SATA cable. (but 10 years it might be fragile)
If you want to use samsung magician you can it will tell you everything you need to know. But you don't have to
Do a clean install. Correct you never defrag a SSD

Is this for your ASRock 970 motherboard?

yes still with it. probably won't upgrade for another 2 or 3 years with some improvements like this.

A lot of people will tell you that the sata3 cable is required, but many tests will show that it makes no difference really.

I tend to just use newer ones generally the sata3 has a latch on it (a little metal clasp that locks the cable in). And the older ones tend to just be plastic that are held in by friction fit.

that website shows driver and firmware for 840evos and others like 850pro but not 850evo which is what I have. Does this means there is no firmware upgrade for mine?
I clicked the Samsung link and I found the magician software with my cell.. install the SSD, install magician and forget about it.. enable rapid mode of you like in the software and your done and off for dinner ;)

I've got the same drive plus the 960 Evo nvme drive and the software works for the entire thing.

Here's mine for reference:
