having had watercooling for about a month now, i am now getting tired of remembering to plug in the pump (240v) every time my PC gets switched on, so i want to make, or buy, a relay system that would turn on the pump at the same time as my pc switch is pushed.
any help please?

no, i said it is a 240v pump, AC, 50Hz mains.

get a relay that switches 240V AC(power circuit) with 12V DC(control circuit). hook up the pump to the power circuit and attach any free 12V plug from your psu to the control circuit... there ya go....

but maybe this is too easy.... ?

yup, thats too easy :)

i need to know where to get a relay like that, or how to make one.
sorry, should have clarified that earlier

in germany these types of relais are sold in every electronics shop....

i thought of something like this.

looks similar to my find.... but i can´t tell if it can handle 240V...

yup this would be fine .. note the 6 Amps rating .. 220 V * 6 A = 1320 W .. this means you could switch a load of up to 1320 W with it safely .. your pump is probably in the 25-30 W range so perfectly fine

please be careful when working with mains voltage. make sure you insulate every open contact properly .. i use plenty epoxy/glue over the contacts

thanks guys. its cheap so its not gonna break the bank if its wrong. ordering one now!

well, got it hooked up and it works like a champ. i cant beleive the guys in the maplin shop didnt tell me about this relay, instead i had to buy it over the internet after advice by you guys.
by the way, anyone else that wants the same thing: the easiest way to hook up the terminals is to trim some box connectors, and tape the whole thing up after youre done.
