How do you know if your MOBO is the cause of a problem?

I mean, it's not like a component! It's the motherboard. Are there any decent diagnostic tools that can tell you whether its failing, or if it's just dodgy in some areas, stuff like that?
 
I guess you just test the suspect part in a differant machine,if it works fine,then its the board.

I dont really know any specific tests for the board,soree.
