How do you manage "add-ons"?

In my add-ons list, there are three copys of Java plug-ins 1.5.0_08; and a lot of other duplicate files. Is this long list of add-ons slowing down my internet connection speed or slowing down my log-in. How do I know what I can delete? Is there a "CLEANER" to get rid of extra/dead link "ad-Ons"?

shouldn't do... all the JRE/JVM does (very basically) is runs programs written in java, you only need the one.

Ok, that sounds good for Java what about the other Questions, any info?

Namslas:

Got your "PM", & also responded here, in a bit better detail, & here goes -

Well, IE7 has a "built-in" addons management tool in its menus... specifically -> TOOLS menu, Addon management submenu...

Barring that? I guess you could look here in your registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions]

Using the REGEDIT.EXE tool... be careful though, if you are NOT familiar w/ its use... but, from what you say? You don't have much choice... I would burn that ones you are having hassles w/ & be happy to be rid of such an annoyance!

That SHOULD cover it, where many/most of them are... for starters @ least!

And, like others stated above, about Java? Get its latest revision, v6, & uninstall the others... that ought to be good enough for THAT part, as others stated.

Good Luck!

APK

P.S.=> Add/Remove Programs in CONTROL PANEL may aid you here as well... apk

Well, don't thank me (yet)... until you're "straight" & working again!

:)

This is another possible as well (the first hive/key/value path I gave you was the "universal" machine-wide one...), but this one? It's local to YOUR profile, & might just have some in there also!

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions

* Again, good luck & take your time doing this... you may want to hunt them thru the ENTIRE registry as well (the troublesome ones) by their "GUID" (globally unique identifier) value, the long 'scrambled up number' as well!

APK

P.S.=> Regedit.exe has a COOL feature, & it's one you MAY wish to employ: Exporting... export to a .reg text file, ANYTHING you delete, just in case... this way, you can always "remerge" them, by double-clicking on the .reg files in Explorer.exe (for example, it's only 1 possible way to merge registry data... using regedit.exe yourregfile.reg is another)... apk
