How I'm using a Water Filter to clean my loop - with VIDEO

Hi,

How I use a cheap, simple 'Water Filter' to keep my 5 litre (1 gallon) Custom Loop and 'Water Chiller' clean simultaneously.
-Filter rated at 5 micron
-(Even a small % of some larger bacteria can be up to 10 microns long).

In the video I show how there is no adverse affect caused by the restriction of both Chiller (with 5L tank) and filter. Even on only one D5 pump.

My earlier post: "Bought a used Water Chiller - might of been used for Fish" got nearly 1500 views in a week; so after tossing some ideas around about cleaning... :banghead:;

...I made a little video about my solution :rockout:

P.S.

I also run with only EK coolant + distilled

Edit:
Apologies for the terrible camera work -- took it using my Samsung Galaxy Smart-phone.
Picture is still crystal clear though; plenty good to view the crystal clear water as demonstrated :)

Is that a Cantonese accent? ;)

Nice video. Very clever.

Like the saying goes..."You dont know until you try"

Thats not a reverse osmosis filter.

Reverse osmosis has one water input and two water outlets, one clean and one dirty. I would guess its just a particulate filter thats part of a reverse osmosis system.

I just took the name from the Ebay listing: (sorry about the confusion with the name) -- still does the job:

The filter inside the housing is "hollow" like a toilet roll tube or a kitchen role tube.

The inlet pipe only reaches to edge of the inside of the housing.

The outlet pipe on the other side reaches to the middle (in the hollow part of the filter).

The filter is sealed at the top and bottom with pressure (creating an air-tight seal) I can see its air tight because if I turn it around I can watch where the air bubble is able to go.

So for all intensive purposes, it still does what its meant to do. The water must pass through the 5 micron filter in order to make its way between outlet and inlet. (the pressure forces the water through).

In this setup (a closed loop liquid cooling system for a PC) it's perfect. Since any waste water would require constant topping up of reservoir to prevent the pump running dry. :)

Hope that helps :)

How often will you clean/change out the filter?

@Vario considering it's a closed loop system using only distilled water and EK additive he shouldn't have to change the filter more than maybe once a year and that's only if it's dirty if at 6 months it doesn't show any signs of goop building up I'd remove it from the loop altogether

If bacteria is a concern, you can just kill it. No need to filter it out, as the filter will just harbor more growth if left in the loop for an extended period. You can just kill it because at that point it won't grow and you don't have to worry about it being poisonous and just fill through a filter to start with.

I can't get past your awesome accent, that is heavy lol
