Anyone have any idea on what the current AMD processors will drop to when they release the phenomII's???

The highest AMD processor is only $180, but the new Phenom II, will be ~$200-$300, which mean, there is no possibility that they will lower the price on the current Phenom.

Yea there really won't be the need for them to drop the prices. They are so low already. And the P II's aren't going to be much more expensive than the current ones (or so we think)

I would expect some price change, they will be releasing a 2.8Ghz version with a locked multiplier I can't imagine this being very far over $200. I have a feeling top end chips will ship $10 - $20 down and medium chips maybe $5 - $10, low end chips not much though, they can only make things so cheap and make a profit on them.

depends on intel and whether their Core 2 series feels the pressure or not.

I really doubt it, I mean look at the pricing segment on AMD most x2's cover 49-80 dollar segments, the lowest phenom x3 is 89.99 I think phenom x3's will drop to 80 on the dime or 75 dollars minimum. with 8750 BE picking up at about 100 or 90 dollars. The lowest x4 is 9600BE at 116 dollars. I really doubt that is going to get any lower. you can already see the x2 covers the low money segment, while older phenoms cover 80-180 dollar segement I see the 9950 at best only dropping to 170 bucks, It will get lower throughout 2009 no joke but not during release of PII, really doubt it. I have yet to see another AMD processor that costs remotely over 350. And the last expensive processor I have seen from them is the old s939 Fx-62 for over a grand.

haha i guess so, that means intel can sit there reaping money like a cash cow!

no.....it would mean if Phenom 2 is as good as the reviews have said which put it in direct competition with the quads, q9650 for the Phenom II 940 then intel will more than likely drop their price on the c2q, which would you buy Phenom II 940 at ~250-70 or a q9650 for $500+ when both perform the same?

AMD all the way

i think its time to reintroduce cartrige processors, and Crossfire the suckers,

I think that AMD will drop prices some, but not a lot. Like you can get a 3800+ for around $35 and that seems low enough for a processor.

..and boards we can add cache too!! J/K I really hope Phenom II's rock cause I want to see AMD start to do well. The only issue I see is Core 2 really hurt AMD, then i7 came out and gave them a another pounding. It's going to be hard for AMD to win back those that made the switch due to AMD's poor lineup during the Core 2/i7 triumph.

Very true. Even if the new Phenoms perform on par with Yorkfield, I still wouldn't switch back. I'll make the switch when AMD is BETTER than Intel again.
