How to benchmark mice?

Weird software aside, there is no real point in benchmarking (not even sure if it’s a proper word for it) modern decent mice. Unless the implementation is totally scuffed, all current-day high end sensors are flawless anyway and will perform identically (matched CPI provided, natch).
I'm observing mild differences between devices in the regularity of updates (even if you get say 7000 updates per second, are some of them more than 2ms apart, which arguably matters with 480+ Hz displays), with the same 8kHz polling rate, USB port, cable, receiver placement, at max sensor DPI (20k+).
Maybe more interestingly, I've observed large differences (including >10ms hiccups every few seconds) between rear USB ports on the same xHCI controller with no other devices.
I'm hoping there are other tools that can provide similarly revealing data points?
