After finding some "old favourite" games in a local shop for nearly nothing, I intend to buy a PS2 to play them on (I used to have one, but had to sell it). However, I don't have a TV, or room for a TV, and using the family TV for it would be severely impractical. So, how do I connect a PS2 to my monitor?

The monitor is a 19" LCD with VGA input.

I found a SCART to VGA cable in Maplin, but it was £60  pricier than a second-hand PS2! Why is it so expensive (link to it here )? Are there cheaper cables available, or switch boxes or something?

I'd like to know that, too... I heard it should work with a VGA Box...some of them are really cheap. Can't show you a pic, because of the ()=+)/%+ content filter at work, wich blocks almost everything...

Found a VGA box here, but it's still nearly £60. The PS2 itself is only £45 from Game. Am I missing something, or will I have to fork out the price of a brand-new PS2 to play a second-hand one?

Try finding the X2VGA2, it is a really good Component to VGA converter, and only goes for $55 USD.

That looks fine, except it's NTSC and I have (will have) a PAL console...

What you need to run is a TV turner card in your pc then get a RF Modulator and just run the audio/video cables into the RF Modulator then a coaxial cable from the RF Modulator to the TV Tuner card. Also you will only need a plain analog tuner card so you should be able to get a used one for cheap.

When it comes to VGA boxes, it is hit and miss. I paid 70 USD for one a few years ago, only to get a crappy quality from my xbox. I'd say give the card method a try like Snipermonkey said, and if not, then a quality box (going to cost more than the ps2 probably).

If you didn't live in england i could hook you up just about at cost for a RF mod sorry man.

Use a ATI card, video input and your mic input.

Thanks for the emulator links, but I checked it out and a) half my games don't work on the emulator, b) the performance would be pretty bad, and c) I have saved games on memory cards.

I've decided to go for a video capture PCI card (with an S-Video input) to use my PS2. The one I want is under £20, far less than a VGA box, and if it doesn't work, I'll still have the capture card which I can use to help record our old VHSs on to DVDs :D

Thanks for all the advice.

when you look for a TV card make sure to have drivers available.
I have an old ATI card and can't make the TV tuner work.
