  1. Make a new folder.
  2. Change the icon to a blank icon. No icon should appear
  3. Rename the folder to a blank by pressing "alt + 255." (NOTE: Press 255 on the numpad) No text should appear.
  4. Your done! It is uber hidden. :D

Yeah but you cant avoid that anyway

This is good for a personal use computer that SOMETIMES gets touched by other people
preventing any unfortunant accidents :D

use permissions. put it somewhere in your regular application filesystem structure, like C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\queue or other unsuspecting names. change security settings to take all access away, even from the OS. usually nobody notices that the folder exists

Hi there. I came across this page whilst searching for how to create a hidden folder in Windows.
The reason I need to do so is to create a demo CD for a client. It's basically a website on a CD, and I want to just have the index page visible, with all the sub-linked pages and graphics in a hidden folder on the CD, so that the user only has one file to click on.

I did initially explore the route of setting the folder's 'Properties' to have an 'Attribute' of 'Hidden'. But the problem with this method, I later discovered, is that the 'Hidden' preference is tied to the machine, rather than the folder itself. So if that folder were to be viewed across a network, it would now be visible.

So my question is, will this other method that is mentioned here, ie: setting the icon to blank be applied to the folder itself or only to the one machine that I set that preference on?

I would test this myself across a network, but I don't have a network. I'm just here on the one machine.
Does anyone know the answer to this? Could anyone with a network test it for me?

Cheers!
Brett!
