I have found a very good price for an English International Windows 10 Home, supposadly KW9-00017. However, the seller seems to be under the impression that it might be OEM/OEI which is why it is about €40 cheaper than usual.
What specific questions can I ask him to determine if it is a proper, transferable retail version of the English Int. OS or some one shot OEM/OEI?
Is the packaging gatefold(docs, USB, key code etc) for the retail and a grubby envelope for the OEM/I version? If it has KW9-00017 on the box does that pin it down as a retail English International transferable copy?

The ad also states that it is a USB copy, if that helps at all, and the photo is of a generic gatefold W10 Home box.

Some other info, and this might pin it down, the only code showing on the advert is this: x19-92030-03.
Can anyone decipher it and determine exactly what language and type of W10 Home it is?

Any ideas?
Tom.

Slu/oem keys tend to actually have the letters OEM in the key or at least they do when I have them

If it's pro I think it will say pro, Atleast mine does. If the key is extremely discounted it's an OEM key. No one sells $10 for five dollars. once installed you can open CMD, and run "slmgr -dli" and it will open a window and tell you exactly what you got

Every OEM copy of Windows 10 I've ever bought came as a flat cardboard envelope with just the DVD in it and the COA sticker on envelope.

Also, the COA will say OEM or Retail. If he doesn't have a COA, it isn't a legit copy and you shouldn't by it.

English International Windows 10 Home, supposedly KW9-00017

I do not know how legit the seller you are referring to is; however, after looking around at Microsoft's Info and Newegg (Australia)... it should to be the retail version for that product code KW9-00017.

The Microsoft link will download an .xlsx file named "PriceListReport_Aug_2015_External-en.xlsx".

It is easy to check... just go to Microsoft's site and do a search for the product code, EAN, or whatever info you have.

As for the seller... search for them and their reputation/review/complaints on google.

Do people still use that Microsoft Validation site? it looks like it doesnt support win10 so im guessing that answers the question.

I noticed only retail version uses an activation process tied into my MS Account as well (if you have one at least). It should show that in the info screen. OEM never did that for me... and it's also tied to hardware more closely.

I wouldn't buy Windows though except from a fairly well know merchant. Lots of scammers out there.

lots of KNOWN windows scammers? because why would they need to scam if they can get masses of keys from MSDN?

I just see many shops online selling Windows keys (and Office). Wherever they're getting them, they're not going to work in my experience. I've personally seen two times where activation detected it was an invalid key. I don't know about the OP's shop though.

only buy from a licensed retailer. Retail will always come in a retail box. OEM will come in a bland cardboard envelope. if its USB or any other media

if you type : slmgr -dl it will tell you if it is retail

Which one?
Settings > Update & Security > Activation

That won't.
slmgr dl.PNG

But we already went over what will. ;)

Right click on start -> System -> Product ID

Windows 7 and down had "OEM" in the middle of that string. Windows 8 and up have "OEM" at the end (e.g. #####-#####-#####-##OEM).

As to the legitimacy of a product you don't yet own, that's best directed to Microsoft. If Microsoft can't confirm the seller is an authorized retailer then there is zero guarantee it is legitimate.

The ad easily could be just for the USB pen that comes with Windows 10 USB installs without any license information (nothing to activate it with). In other words, it could be something you can make yourself using the Media Creation Tool. I've seen misleading listings on ebay like that.

Ok, I've decided to ditch this seller because of the questions I asked and more importantly the answers I got, read below. Apologies for the English I've just chucked them through a translator.

Me to him:
´I just found your website and the Ebay listing while searching for Windows 10 Home English version (KW9-00017 Eng Int).
Please do not take offence but you can confirm that this is an original product (x19-92030-03) sealed with a retail license key (not OEM) and USB.
The reason I ask is because the price is so incredibly low.´

His responce:
´No, I'm not offended, the question is absolutely lawful and intelligent.
In my opinion this is an OEM license, then redone because I do not explain otherwise how my supplier can give me a price that will allow me to sell it at the price we sell it.
On the Microsoft site costs about 150 euros, there is a justification there must be me is OEM if you want a perfect retail version not to buy.´

I then sent him a follow up email to ask if he could send me a photo of the actual item in question and to confirm that it has KW9-00017 somewhere on the box - I've received no reply.

So, obviously something fishy going on here; either out and out lie about what the item actually is or some dodgy open retail pack with some sort of OEM nonsence stuck in it. At the same time him trying to feign ignorance when we damn well know, that he knows, what he has.

In any case I'm buying from elsewhere.

Cheers,
Tom.
