I am planning on installing linux on my hp but hp has put a vista partition on the drive instead of giving me a vista disk.Im wondering if its possible to back up the vista recovery partition from my hp to another hard drive so i dont loose my copy of vista when i can wipe the drive clean.

btw if it is possible does anyone know how to wright it to another hdd?

Just copy your key down (should be on a sticker on your computer or use software like the magical jelly bean to grab it right from windows), and download an untouched vista disc. If you ever have to reinstall vista, you just use your key on a regular Vista install disc, and it works just fine.

You can even use 32bit keys on 64bit Vista, and vice-versa.

lol i was afraid of this but ill try to pry into it and see if i can back it up.if i cant find a away to back it up ill take your advise and just dl a disk and input my key.

its not a real big deal im just shaky about loosing the partition for some reason.

thanks for the advise.

thanks ,these tutorials should help, i found out about the clone software last night i was worried about data loss from cloning that might damage files and prevent the recovery from working when i try to reuse it, but i wont know till i try.

yeah i dont have any dvd r it says not to use RW so im just going to clone it and if it damages the partition its no big deal ill just dl a disk like wile e said.
