I need help upgrading my pc...

Maybe I missed it but what games will OP play? A cheap, 2nd hand GPU will help lead to a better CPU/board bump if anything is in the FS thread.

Oh hell, why didn't the incompatibility show up when I made the change. That card will not fit in that case. Here, this case will hold the card, though you will need to remove the removable extra drive tray. I have one of these cases. By far, my favorite budget case.

Or of you prefer, this is a decent choice that would have zero issues with just about any video card you would ever buy.

I thought about mentioning that too. GTX 760's secondhand are 91% of the performance of a GTX 960 and usually sell around $140. Ditto for a Radeon R9 280 or Radeon 7950.

I suppose it comes down to how risk averse @Ivan is!

I was thinking more of a GTX650 but a 760 will do too.

How about this for the list (Based off the $300 dollar price range and assuming reusing the Case and CPU/Cooler, and HDD's):

Motherboard: Asrock H61m
Ram: Gskill 8gb DDR3 1600
Power Supply: EVGA Bronze 500watt
GPU: XFX R9 280

That should suffice unless I missed something. It goes slightly over but I figured to grab whatever was most powerful that fit into the budget. There are lots of things that can be swapped around but I feel for your build and budget that should keep you going for awhile (IMHO).

You can buy a new 960 for $180 and a new 280 for $150. Used cards are rarely a good deal, IMO.

I haven't had to RMA a video card in at least seven years, with the exception of one XFX Radeon 7750 that would crash constantly in games new out of the box. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I don't have the slightest concern buying used cards, as long as they're not abused ex-bitcoin/litecoin/whatever-other-digital-currency-power-sucking-abomination mining cards. If it's an AMD card and a seller makes any mention of fan problems, I'm out. The fan itself is easy to fix, but that fan is telling a story

Hey I'm back, so I got all my parts but don't have thermal paste do I need it?

Try some guacamole

I don't even recommend homemade thermal paste at all! Anyway you can get cheap no brand ones from the hardware store if you really wanna save those are the cheap silicone type. It worth the time to get a good one.

If you insist on homemade thermal paste, you can used toothpaste it can keep your cpu freshly mint. Some people try peanut butter lol not recommended.

Is there any homemade thermal paste I can create?
what?? just go to pc shop or electronic shop, you can get it for lower than $4 and you can use it for years

@peche if you PM him might supply the best paste from his survey :)
otherwize its a trip to the PC parts store

If you bought a new boxed processor it will include a cooler with thermal paste already on it.

If you bought a third-party cooler (Coolermaster, Arctic, Corsair, etc.) for your processor it also includes thermal paste in the box.

Guys I already got one lol, thanks for the help. I just need to buy a new power supply because the one I bought doesn't have a 8 pin connector
