All,
I've got a real head scratcher going on here. I've just upgraded my processor from an i5-4570 to an i7 4790K. Only issue is when I seat the new processor the machine will power up for 2 seconds then shut down and cycle until I pull the plug. Exactly as if the processor power connector is missing. No POST. If I re-seat my i5, machine works perfectly.
I did the due diligence and checked the motherboard compatibility (Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3), which is fine.
I've check a 2nd, more powerful 650w PSU, which works fine on my i5 but not on the i7.
I've also checked 2 CPU fans, both work.
I'm lost with what it could be. I've looked at the BIOS, which is out of date. Currently running F6 and there is F8 available on the website - however there are no drivers compatible for Windows 10 64-bit.
Could it be anything else? I've checked all cables. Besides the BIOS version, the only other thing I can think of is a faulty i7 processor.
Thoughts and questions welcomed.
Thanks,
Steve.
