Impossibility to install new Catalyst driver following a computer crash

Following a crash of my computer, I’ve now an issue when trying to install the Catalyst drivers (version 14.4) under Windows 7 64bits : during the installation, the following message appears “An installation is already running : please finish it before…” and then after validate, the installation process stop.

I’ve try to uninstall properly the driver using Windows uninstaller and also the ‘AMD clean uninstall’ utility but nothing works.

I’ve have also tried drivers cleaner utility and register cleaner utility (CCleanup), without success.

As I don’t want to reformat my system disk, losing all my data, licenses, …, I’m looking for a way to:

- whether identify and delete the flag which mis-indicate to the Catalyst installer that an older installation is in progress (register keys or log files to delete ?),

- or bypass the detection process by the Catalyst installer.

Is there someone who can help ?

Thanks.

Thank you :-)

It's better : at least, I have the core drivers installed with success.

But there are still 3 modules I can manage to install :
AMD Accelerated Video Transcoding,
AMD Slip & drop transcoding,
AMD Catalyst Control Center,
And the same error message "an former installation is already runing...".

Try killing all catalyst/amd services in task manager then have a go.

Did you do a clean of temp files as well?

I've had this issue on corrupted os

Where are you d'loading the driver from?
Try using the Catalyst itself to uninstall manually not auto as admin and check all boxes. Does it still say another instance is running during uninstall?
If not try the D.D.U. method again.
D1nky may be right about the O.S. issue..................Or worse a hard disk or Virus.
Can you take the time to fill out your system spec's so we can see your hdd , Card etc.

I've tried all of this ... but nothing work excepting DDU which allow a partially set-up.
Guest as my OS is corrupted that there is no other solution than an clean re-installation after disk formatting.
But I’m sure that an utility must exist like CCleaner which allows to fix the Windows installation log ?

Chuck in your windows 7 disk and it will ask if you want to repair or install I believe.
Seems like a stretch but it may work.
Trying to stop the dual install seems to be the bigger issue. hmmmmm.

before that have you tried driver sweeper?

when im corrupted and too lazy this usually works in safe mode. Then go into your pc folders and delete anything driver related. CClean, then install.

another thing that worked was to install an older driver and then try the new.

I've downloaded the Catalyst 14.6 beta and guest what ?: the issue disappear and I was able to install them without problem.

As I've also another issue of display offset on my other htpc desktop, I think that the 14.4 is not a good version, with a lot of bugs, and paradoxically the 14.6 beta seems to be more reliable :-)
