I have Intel's I225-V ethernet chip on my ASUS Z490-H. I225-V has been known to have some problems, and it's finally started to impact me.
My internet has gone from 75 Mb/s to 1 Gb/s, and now I can see the poor performance of my ethernet.
I get around 800 Mb/s on a cheap HP with an i3 4130, over 900 Mb/s on my i7 3770 with 82579-V, and only around 300-500 Mb/s on my i9 10850 with I225-V.
A quick look found lots of info on a few problems that Intel acknowledged:
One is an I225-V errata relating to 2.5 GB/s not working with most hardware.
Next there is a problem with link rate auto negotiation and Windows AutoTuning.
Last there is some info about the I219-V not reaching full speed, but the suggested fixes don't help.
Fixes from these issues get mixed together and show up in all kinds of forums.
My I225-V is a V2 revision, so it does have the errata and I've applied the firmware update. I don't use 2.5 Gb/s so I think it's not relevant.
Link rate auto negotiation is working fine, and I tried disabling Windows AutoTuning with no improvement.
The issue with the I219-V seems closest to what I'm experiencing, but the suggested fixes have no effect.
This is not a cable or router issue. I've tried several driver versions.
I booted a thumbdrive with Ubuntu and my i9 10850 with I225-V gets over 800Mb/s, so the hardware is capable of at least that.
Seems like a driver, or Windows is to blame.
I'm open to any ideas that might improve my Windows 11 ethernet performance.
