Intel Sparkle firmware?

@Solaris17 Do you know why there's no firmware listed here for Sparkle's GPUs? Does this company just not update their cards' firmware?

None of them post firmware. Since the firmware is included in the driver package. Unlike AMD or Nvidia or there corresponding OEMs that may post updated firmware for specific cards.

Not necessarily, FW updates are sporadic and depend on model. This is even true if they utilize the same base chip. For example using sparkle as an example, this can mean that an update for the A770 ROC may exist when an update for the A770 ROC Luna does not.

They do have config firmware, but some vendors simply use the Intel default roms. I took a look and I do have a sparkle eco A310 here; but I have another card in my test system at the moment.

I can connect it in a few days and see which firmware will flash if any.

However; it should be noted that there cards are simple in design, even down to the PCB level. It's totally possible the rom burned is simply good enough for there cards and there is absolutely no reason to update it. Additionally, I only have a Sparkle A310 ECO. If any of the firmware flashes fail its not necessarily conclusive and does nothing to indicate if sparkle updates firmware one way or another. Its possible the default Intel roms wont flash, and if thats the case it doesnt mean Intel roms wont flash on a sparkle A770 ROC Luna; it only means it didnt flash on the card I have.

Additionally, even if it does flash, it doesnt mean that you could for example flash a Sparkle A750 in the same manner.

In either case I will have the results in a day or two if I manage to remember. I'll let you know.

I just tried your recommendation but I can't get through all the steps

1- To flash firmware I do `igsc fw update --device /dev/mei2 --image ~/dg2_gfx_fwupdate_SOC2.bin` where the bin is what I obtained from your matrix here under SOC2 (A380/A310/A40 Pro) Firmware for version 101.6129

2- To flash OPROM-Data I do `igsc oprom-data update --device /dev/mei2 --image ~/dg2_c_oprom.rom` where the rom is what I obtained from your matrix under DG2: 14 00 31 04 00 00 00 00 but then I get the following error:

OPROM DATA Version: 14 00 31 04 00 00 00 00
OPROM DATA Version: 14 00 2C 04 00 00 00 00
Error: The image is not compatible with the device, check vid/did

worked for me /shrug

Idk what tool your using, or its version, or if your driver is properly installed. You cant raw flash the cards with no driver, and you cant flash the cards with just .ini drivers. You will need the HECI software device it creates so it can communicate.

I'm basically using intel's own tool: https://github.com/intel/igsc

the latest version of it. And I was following the steps from this guide: https://forum.level1techs.com/t/remember-to-update-your-intel-arc-firmware-on-linux/208736

Is there another tool you'd recommend me use?

You are trying to flash a code rom _c_ with the data flag.

This wont work. Make sure you are listing the commands and look closely before trying to commit. you want oprom-code update.

Your under the false assumption that there is one of each always. Infact that is almost never the case, with some cards never getting a _d_ data update. All the cards important metrics and functionality as explained in my other posts, pinned to the top of this forum explain this. Firmware and Oprom Code data is going to be what the user sees and feels.

No. Im saying Sparkle uses the Intel .rom files.

There are multiple files, but the ones that affect the card; fan speed, voltage, clock rate etc. Are the firmware image like "dg2_gfx_fwupdate_SOC2.bin" and the OPROM "code" file like: "dg2_c_oprom.rom".

Things like the Data oprom _d_ and config data (in the zip files I release) are things like signatures, certificates, updates to other chips on the card "if applicable".

The "if applicable" is the important part here. You may not get a new file. Straight up. Some manufacturers (like sparkle) use the intel roms. Others have super custom PCBs. But there are not one in the same. Someone like Asus might release a firmware update because they need to adjust the logic for dual fans. They might update a SINGLE file to accomplish this. While other vendors dont need such tweaks, so they will sit on the latest version until a new intel build comes out (that they can build off of) or simply use the intel roms themselves because they arent doing anything special with the PCB (sparkle).

Just because someone like Sparkle, Dell, HP do not have custom roms, does not mean that those cards are not getting updated, and it does not mean they need them, because another vendor did release one.

In sparkles case, they use the main intel firmware roms. Which means for you and most of the general public, assuming there are no problems, your sparkle card is flashed everytime you install a new driver, if Intel has released a vanilla firmware update. On windows anyway. For linux you would need to consult the matrix and do it manually. Assuming there is change.
