With the next generation dual core, 65nm desktop CPUs Intel has ready to roll out in about 4 months, the company may regain some ground within gaming ethusiasts' circles. Initial tests, that were solicited by Intel on systems built by them, of the "Conroe" CPUs have it pummeling AMD's top, expensive Athlon FX CPU. And it does it at roughly the same speed (~170MHz slower than the FX, in fact.)

Conroe is a CPU that Intel touts as a merger of Pentium-M technology of low power consumption and heat dissipation combined with what they've learned from the Pentium 4. It will be interesting to see the final product and if it will be the "gamers" choice for the next year or two. These results are not meant to be definitive indicators of performance, but rather a preview of what is to come.
