Well, not so much fluctuating but going on and off/dropping contantly:

Any ideas? using a netgear dg834g v4 and on virgin media. Not sure if it only does it when I'm DL'ing torrents (nothing illegal, just various linux distros to try out ;)) But that's when I notice it.

I'd say that's natural for some torrent connections depending on the source :)

If you look when your not downloading it should be quite flat, maybe the odd spike here and there or at least that's how I've only ever noticed mine to be.

I'm dling multiple torrents, surely the chance of them all stopping at once is pretty low, plus internet pages don't load while this happens.

*has another look at the chart.... oh yeah, I see what you mean.

Try stopping all your internet activity (downloading/uploading) and use speedtest.net and monitor your connection to see if that has the same result?

I see all the peaks and valleys occur at the same time on the up and downs.

Have you tried turning off the firewall to see, if, that maybe affecting it?

Check your registry and make sure this line (EnableConnectionRateLimiting) is not under the tcpip key, and, if it is... make sure it is set to 0, not 1.
The registry address is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\EnableConnectionRateLimiting

Could be your ISP sending you reset or forge packets to limit your torrent connection.

Tweak your connection:Tweaking Windows 7 / Vista TCP/IP settings for broadband internet connections

There are a hundred maybes and one correct answer!:ohwell:

What ISP?
What type of service do you have with the ISP?

:)

i say its the torrents.

1. if you max out your upload at any given moment (remember that pure download actually uploads some traffic, ACK requests and such), then your downloads will choke momentarily as well.

2. your router could also be choking a little with the sheer amount of connections.

My advice: lower max upload to ~50% of your upload, and maximum connections to about 3/4 of what they are now. (thats connections per torrent, total, and half open connections)
