Ive got some laptop ram lying around and googled "RAM adapter"

came up with this

question is...........does adding a laptop RAM stick in the little saddle make the unit too wide to fit more than just one......in other words, will the ram sticks end up touching each other?

Most likely (or it'll fit, just). But I think they won't be together too tightly, so it should be fine anyway.

Use standard things on this module as reference to calculate the width. Measure it on image and scale to a reference item and check on your system. Use contacts or the lock in grooves to do the scaling since they are of standard dimensions on all modules. Or the module length...

Seen them for sale on ebay
Heard they are picky regarding what Ram Speed works
Size wise you could use 3 in an X58 ( in slots 1.3. and 5 or 2.4 and 6 but not in all 6 )
Best possible use would be as an adapter to test laptop ram ( to keep or ) before flogging said ram on ebay ( if you don't have a laptop to test them in )
would not use them in a Daily used machine

PS i also got loads of DDR2 laptop ram (Tested )
and a few sticks of DDR3 untested ( did consider getting one for testing the DDR3)

I'd say they would touch, if you filled every slot.
I only use two slots if the board has four, that way there is space between.

Anyone actually used one?

Nope... Kind of a mixed bag, since it is only useful if you have a cheap supply of spare/unused SODIMMs (I do, but they are more precious to buyers, when installed inside a laptop).
There's a cheaper version from China. No DIP switches, simply takes SPD from the module itself.

The one with switches allows you to reprogram JEDEC profiles onto that Atmel chip without messing up the module, but I don't think you have an SPI flash/EEPROM programmer w/ SO-8 clip laying on your kitchen table, like I do...
Anyway, it's a questionable feature, so get a cheap one without switches and let us know how it works! :toast:

usually easier to just sell the ram you have and buy the ram you want, sometimes laptop ram has a premium over desktop ram anyway.

If you don't know its good when you sell it your buyer can complain it don't work and your out of pocket

Oh, you don't know those welsh guys. Who needs "easy", if it is not fun?

Seen on ebay, but never used one.

It should arrive by the end of April.
