I have two IDE drives which have stuff on.I have bought a IDE to Sata docking station the IDE showed up as a Mass store-ridge with NO MEDIA. :( I have just bought a PS2 and was wondering i can format on the PS2 is that posible?I was going to bye a Sata Network Adapter on Ali EXPRESS but the order was cancelled:(That was the cheapest one i could get they are so expensive one on Amazon was £34o_OSomeone on here said it was posible
to format it on the PS2.There was someone selling a IDE Network Adapter for £5 so is it posible to wipe and format a ISW drive on there? As on another forum post on here i got an IDE to Sata Docking station for the sole purpose of wiping and formating an IDE drive.I can,t see any video on youtube where someone is putting an IDE drive in the PS2 that has stuff on the drive all ready. If someone says it can be done and gives me a link of how to do it i will buy the IDE Adapter.

You can if you have a freemcboot memory card, but even then it can be a headache. It would probably be easier and cheaper finding an old PC with IDE and using that.

I do but everytime i put one in, the PC does not boot.:(They do the external ones for 2.5 IDE and Sata, but mine are 3.5 wbich as you know have to have power.:(I will give it another go and majke sure the one i want to format is the slave.

If you have a PC that works, you can make a bootable thumb drive or CD with Gparted on it to format the drive.

You need a IDE to SATA adater (incl. 12V power line) otherwise it doesn't start. 3,5" needs more power.
Also you might need to change your boot priority in the BIOS. ;)

I got a USB <-> IDE adapter. It comes with a separate power supply for 12V and a breakout cable with a molex connector. The same adapter have the correct 2.5" IDE connector on it as well. Mine is similar to this one. It is not the exact same one, but they could've been made in the same factory. So, depending on what you are trying to accomplish, something like that might be your best option.

That onr is an exspencive one al there stuff is.I don,t see the point in spenfing a lot of money on an Addapter when i only have two IDE drives.I will have to see if i can do it on my PC.All o eant is to either use one them with the PS2 and the other one for another PC that only has IDE.

A IDE to SATA adater doesn't cost much, just a few bucks on eBay. ;) Have a look into your PSU box, there might be one included if it's a older PSU.

It is such a pain in the neck this Athlon 2400 system. :( i tried both the IDE drives on here Slave and no cabal the sata drive failed to boot.Could not get into the settings.I think the problem is because the OS is on Sata.I did try putting the sata to IDE adapter on the OS but still no luck.:(I thought i would have trouble with it i had tried it before.

I mean you can't beat this. Its a cheap solution that is reusable

PATA to SATA Adpater

Can you post more details like motherboard and PSU model

I did not know that they did one the other way round mine Sara to IDE .Asus 7v600
I’m not understanding the need for the adapter now that I see the mobo as I can see it has a onboard IDE port and you have a free Molex power cable that can be used for the HDD

That is interesting i did not want to shell out a lot of money just for two IDE drives to be wiped and formated. And it comes with the cabale as well
1 Piece 3.5 IDE to SATA Adapter(with 1 Piece Cable). That is my sort of price thanks :)

Well every time i try it the OS fails to boot ,i have tried it without the jumper on the IDE drives and as Slave it want let me get into the settings.

Yes and gave you the reason that it fails to work. Even when i change the Sata drive with the OS on it to IDE with the adapter it still hails to boot.

What OS and are you setting the OS boot sequence properly

and having onboard you shouldn’t have a need for an adapter.

Try this

CD drive on Primary IDE Slot
HDD on Secondary IDE Slot
SATA HDD on SATA

change Boot priority to

SATA first
CD second

blank for rest

Thanks i will give it a try Durvelle27 :) and the IDE on Slave?o_O
I see that on the adapter they say it should be on Master?o_O
*The IDE Hard Drive Jumper MUST be set to MASTER for this product to work.
"Having the IDE Hard Drive Jumper set to 'CS -Cable Select' or 'Slave' will not work."

You shouldn't be using the adapter at all

Change from Auto and select the corresponding unit weather its the HDD or CD etc..

Is the HDD drive that has an OS on it connected to the motherboard with a SATA cable?
If so does the PC boot and load up the OS when nothing else is connected
If yes then the ide HDD you want to format should be set with the jumper to master and if that is an IDE slot on the motherboard then connect it to that.

Then go in bios and make sure the Boot device is set to the SATA HDD.

If that does not work then might be another bios setting that needs changing but i cannot help with that.

If your using windows and you think the ide HDD is not showing then you need to go into the windows Disk management menu thing and see if it shows up there.

The XP os is on a HDD via the Sata cable and yes it works fine on its own.I tried the IDE Drive with Slave and no jumper at all.As i can,t get into the setting s or anything when the IDE is connected.I will try the IDE on Master and see what happens. All i have here is this
1.IDE Haed drive Disabled or None
2.Other Boot Device Scsi/ onboard ATA Boot device or INT18 Device (Network)
3..ATAPI CD ROM
4.Removeable device LagacyFoppy Ls120 Zip Atapi Mo Usb FFD Usb Zop
I left it like this and i am lost with all this :(And it comes to 1442 but does not manage to do any of it.I rtrirf all of them.o_O I chaged it to INT18 Device (Network) it got in to XP after saying about Winfows 1442.At least i have got it to boot into XP with the IDE drive connected ,but no IDE drive showing abywhere.:(
