Well title is a bit misleading, of course it is, but is it practical? Also, is there an easy way to construct a new bios for the newer capacity? I'm looking at adding 2 GB memory modules to a 512mb HD 4870.

The only cards that I know that you could add memory to was Matrox cards and those are crap, and I don't think there is any way to add memory to your cards.

Only cards back (when it was PCI only) in the day had upgradable memory modules. No modern card has upgradable dedicated memory. There are few cards (usually low end, or laptop gpus) that can share system memory on top of there dedicated memory.

No, I'm talking about physically removing the memory on there and replacing it with new pieces.

It can be done, if, and only if, you have the proper equipment. A soldering Iron isn't going to cut it here.

Why do you want 2GB memory? Where would you get the memory chips to do this? Where are you going to get the equipment to do this? Are you some kind of engineer?

If you're not an engineer, and you don't have the equipment to do this, it would be cheaper to just buy a 2GB card.
