Is my video card too hot?

I found this site while trying to figure out what's causing my motherboard to beep while in Windows.
This is my video card:
SAPPHIRE 100164L Radeon X1650PRO 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16

This seems hot to me for just running the browser
Also, isn't the fan a bit slow?

wow! thats too hot for sure.

install rivatuner and turn that fan up asap!
 
thats crazy i have a 1600pro, and its never got that hot

take your side panel off put your hand on top of the card in the middle where the core is, if it feels to hot to touch then its reading right, check to see if the fan is dirty or clogged. take your video card out, and blow in the pci-e slot, also look over the card itself, and see if the heatsink is making good contact with the core, is this card fairly new, did this problem just start now
 
Look up what the card is rated to run at. I doubt a wimpy 74 degrees is too hot. Something like a 2900xt doesn't even throttle itself until like 105, and it's rated for like 115. People get too excited.

Your motherboard manual may tell you what the beeps mean. Could be the CPU overheating, or the memory being funky, or whatever else.
 
still to hot, how come my 1600pro never broke 65c tops at load
 
Try removing the cooler cleaning the heatsink and fan, clean the old TIM off, re-apply thermal paste and bump fan speed up a bit via rivatuner (if you can be bothered, if not then just bump fan speed up using rivatuner)
 
Yeah I've had the side of the case off for awhile. The board beeps while it's in Windows, not during post so that's been hard to figure out. I have an enormous fan on top of the processor and would have to remove the motherboard from the case in order to re-apply thermal paste to the cpu and heatsink.
I disconnected everything and blew all the dust out from the case with a can of compressed air. It seemed to me there was a lot of heat wafting out of the case.
I used ATITool and set the fan to run at 45%. I'm still playing with Riva Tuner which says my driver is unsupported.
GPU temp is now 64c
GPU ambient is now 47c
Cpu temp 29c
I built this pc in January, 2007 so the card isn't new. Beeping's been going on for a couple of months. Bios is Phoenix/Award so it's hard to know which code to look up. Machine will do a single long beep once in a while, not everyday. I've tested the ram it it comes up as ok.

I meant to re-apply thermal paste to the video card, not the CPU. Should give you a nice temp drop because thermal paste dries up after a while and isn't as effective.

I didn't know you could do that to a video card! Where would it go, under the fan just like a processor? Would arctic silver be ok? :)

I'd go for Arctic Silver Ceramique just in case you accidentally get some on the PCB (remember, AS5 is slightly conductive). If you have a steady hand though, AS5 is fine (I've always used Arctic Silver 5 with no problems).
 
Yeah I found some links that say watch out for anything conductive.
I'll try some OCZ Freeze Extreme instead.
 
Ok, did the thermal paste on the video card and installed one of these:

GPU temp is down to 59c from 74c, according to ATI Tool.
Everest reports 138F down from 163F.
I hope this puts a stop to the motherboard squawking.
