im wondering about lapping heat sink especially when it has direct touch heat pipe, would it increasing risk of leakage or something that unpredictable, thankz for attention :toast:

Lapping a heatsink is almost always a good idea (provided you have the time and the will to do it).

On the other hand lapping a HDT (heat-pipe direct touch) heatsink isn't always the best idea. I've seen it done but it's difficult. Usually the heatpipes have already been sanded a bit and they're incredibly thin. If you want to give it a try just be aware that you might breach the heat pipe.

Walk Through : Lapping Your HSF

Also there's an old tip I heard (which in my experience has been true):
"Odds are good the chip is much worse than the sink"

Also a final tip, I use a ruler and a flashlight to determine how flat the heatsink/chip is. (Put the ruler on edge and slide it across the heatsink/chip while shining the light on the other side. If you can see the light gapping between the edge of the ruler and the surface of the heatsink/chip then you'll know it isn't flat.)

You'd see a much bigger improvement if you lapped your chip, if you have a decent HSF it should already be pretty flat. Although i read somewhere that the higher end ones are slightly concave to give them better contact as most cpu's are slightly convex... don't quote me on that tho.

It already says you lapped a HDT in your specs, shouldn't you be telling us results rather than asking if it is good?

yeah thats true, but i want to re-sand it coz it looks not pretty flat so would it give me any disadvantage of re-sanded especially on the heat pipe? :D
