Is there a "go-to" budget microphone in 2024 for talking to people within games?

My budget is £40 or so.

Razer Seiren Mini. Not even joking, all memes about Razer aside, you’d be hard pressed to find a better plug and play USB mic on a budget. Aside from going with a lottery by browsing some obscure Chinese brands on AliExpress or something.

£45. Definitely on the maximum-end of my budget but it is certainly still an option.

Another option would be something like Samson Meteor. Should be around the same money, if not cheaper. Cheaper still is the Samson Meteorite (yes, different model). Regularly goes for 30 bucks. Downsides are a short non-replaceable cable (might need an extension depending on where the PC you plug it in is located) and somewhat worse sound quality. Absolutely still fine just for in-game voice chat if that’s all you need.

The Samson Meteor here is £50, which is out of my budget, unfortunately.

The Samson Meteorite does not seem to sell in the UK, which may explain the £60+ pricing (stores that have it seem to have imported it)

Well, shucks. From these options, the Razer IS seemingly the best. I guess another option would be something like a headphone boom mic, like the V-MODA Boom Pro and connect to your sound card or on-board sound. There are various options from different manufacturers. Can’t vouch for any of them, though. And that also assumes you use headphones, which is another thing entirely.

That old thing is still available? My Meteor is over 10 years old.

The included mini-USB cable was annoyingly loose fitting, but I didn't have any qualms about the sound quality.

I've been using the fifine k669 for the last few years after seeing it recommended under 30 bucks. The audio is surprisingly clear but it has zero features other than a volume knob. As long as you use the discount code on the website in the description you should be able to get it under 40 pounds but I'd have to check shipping on that. I've been out of the mic game for a while but at the very least I know it's a pretty good mic compared to most of my other friends' mics. Note that the colored versions are likely gonna be cheaper than the black one since they're perpetually on sale so keep that in mind.

I've had a Blue Snowball for a few years now. It's excellent.

The standard has many recording patterns and the slightly cheaper iCE is cardioid-only. The iCE will do for gaming.

If you can get the razer one shipped and sold from Amazon UK (so you know its legit) for only 5 quid more, then I would go that route. this is probably the next best option off though just off the few reviews I read.

I personally use a $15 CAD audio microphone that is giant and the size of my forearm, people say I sound amazing on it, but I got it on a lucky sale at Microcenter in person, so I know you won't find that there
