A few days ago I reflashed the ROM on my phone, and when I tried reinstalling Whatsapp, I couldn't get past the backup restoration step - it would download some 200kB and then get stuck indefinitely. Reinstalling the app, rebooting the phone and the usual steps didn't help. There are a few posts on reddit about this being broken for some days, but it's weird because there's no official info anywhere and if it was a global problem, surely there would be some news about it and more importantly, there would be a LOT more complaints.

Has anyone noticed anything weird? It's been over 3 days and I just can't use the damn app, 5+ years worth of chat history are inaccessible, and Whatsapp support is SO HORRENDOUS I would rather talk to Indians on Microsoft hotline. Not only you seemingly cannot use anything else but Gmail to contact them (otherwise mails get returned), 90% of the time you get copypaste answers no matter what you write, and the few times it seems like there is a human on the other hand, they have no fucking idea what are you talking about and keep talking about something completely else, finally simply closing your ticket. I can't even send anymore, because they apparently blocked me. WTF.

I switched off WA years ago when Meta bought it. Signal is the same thing but better, only problem is convincing certain people to use it.

I would advise restoring from a manual backup or using apkmirror etc. Automatic backups fail.
