Im thinking about installing Windows XP Pro 64Bit as I now have a 64Bit CPU and I was wondering what the benefits of this would be?

To keep it simple, it's not really worth using due to the lack of drivers/software for 64bit, But it is faster according to most people.

My opinion on XP64 was it was just a guinea pig testbed for Vista.

there isn't much of a performance gain. just use the 32-bit version till vista.

So upgrading from 'XP Home 32Bit' to 'XP Pro 64Bit' basically isnt worth it

I just installed 64bit windows a few weeks ago and it is almost useless. The only game that benefits from it is farcry. Everything else stays the same or loses performance. Also you lose a whole bunch of software/driver selection.

If you have it and want to play farcry 64bit go ahead and install it, but dont buy it.

Yeah, I was just as dissapointed after installing the x64-bit version. I did notice a little bit of performance boost, but so many programs weren't compatible with the x64-bit verision of XP that I just gave up, reformatted, and went back to my 32-bit version with SP2.

It seems the same speed as XP Pro, except 32 bit games run slower under it. I lose something like 25 fps on Counter Strike Source.

But doesnt Conter Strike Source run in 64Bit mode?

Only FarCry is 64-bit w/ the patch for AMD Athlon 64 processors and XP Pro 64 bit.

25 FPS is pretty big of a drop, switching to x64
