I nearly freaked out today when I got my new CPU. I thought is was one of those extravagant deep fakes that you hear about recently which would suit the price that I got it for.
  • Numbers matched on sealed box
  • Holograph checks out
  • AMD QR code says it's good
Looks like there is a new revision to this chip in 2022.
Still waiting for the motherboard to try it.

SMD cap layout looks wack

please tell me you didn't buy it off ebay

I don't think I have ever seen an AM5 CPU with the pad layout on the left.

The new Granite Ridge CPUs are not identical, but still retain only the top two spots as empty and devoid of pads or caps.

It's totally fake. Real CPUs look like this:

hmmmm. Only one way to tell for sure.

Maybe you are right, and it's an extremely recent revision. Still seems kinda strange to me, since 9000 CPUs don't look like that either.

Jesus - I can't get the courier to run across the border fast enough with my motherboard. Anticipation intensifies....

Could have been a return from someone taking advantage of Amazon return policy.

Ask for a replacement just in case and compare the ihs

Both of my 7950X3D's look like the TPU photo you posted. Your 7950X is made the 14th week of '24 where as mine were made mid-late '23. My guess is a revision of some sort.

Mine were both 2024 for my 7950X3D and 7800X3D and don't look like that don't remember the week though. Both purchased in June.

SMDs?

And the other 2 spots on the sides look a bit different

I think that whole 'article' on the fake X3d was just clickbait BS.

Maybe but amd should send out a press release even if it's just a blog post about changed the ihs or how the cpu looks externally.

This is interesting considering that your CPU shipped from Amazon. I wish you good luck with it! Keep us posted. :)

Are you sure? That can sometimes change before you know it.

Also... maybe you could try measuring the thickness of the pcb. de8aur looked into one of these and the pcb thickness was off.

My motherboard has a chance to arrive tomorrow. If it doesn't arrive too late I might have a chance to test it. At this point I'm 90% confident it's genuine.
I did manage to find 1 image sample from ebay that matches mine.

Well, no need to worry yourself sick over it. Amazon shipped by Amazon is the surest warranty there is. Sounds like a very recent revision and you'll be fine.

If you live in the US, Go to Microcenter and have it tested and verified

Tested. It's good and authentic.
