Hello my fellow TPU'ers.
My G15 and G9x mouse won't work with my current KVM.
F' fixin' it. I'ma buy a new one.
It must have:

4 or more USB ports.
A speaker audio jack.
Ouputs for 2 PC only.

Oh yeah...Sydney only.

Thank you every one in advance! :rockout:

Sorry to w1zzard for the invalid title of the previous thread.

umm, if this is a want to buy, why is it in general hardware?
if its asking for advice on what to buy, why are you bumping it daily?

KVM's = teh suck, for gaming hardware. they tend to emulate features, thus disabling anything except the basics (101 key keyboard, 2 button + wheel mouse)

I assume that by "Sydney only" you mean a local or in-country vendor. Maybe one of the Aussies here can help you out with that, I don't see how anyone else could.

4 usb ports will be tricky. 2 port kvm's are low end and rarely have all the bells and whistles. You can probably find one with 2 and then try using a hub.

But there are pitfalls to watch out for. First, make sure the ports are USB 2, don't assume that they are.

Second, make sure that it's 2 ports over and above the 2 that you normally get for a keyboard and mouse.

Note: KVM's with 2 usb ports for a keyboard and mouse usually require that you connect the kb and mouse separately. In other words, if you have a deskset combo where both kb and mouse use the same usb receiver (if wireless) or connector, you won't be able to operate both from one port unless it is specifically designed that way. They won't tell you this in the specs, you will have to contact tech support for the company. I had to do just that about a week ago.

If you have such a situation, I would look at only KVM's with PS/2 connectors and get a kb and mouse that have the same.

Almost all KVM's that support hot-key switching require that the keyboard have a scroll lock key. For whatever fucking reason, Logitech decided to do away with the SL key a couple years ago. I don't know if they've reconsidered that fucked up decision since then. But in the meantime, I have bought a couple of the Kennsington Pilot wireless desksets.

Mussels is correct in that some features may not be supported by some KVM's. I have an old dLink 2 port KVm and it seems to handle the special keys on the Kennsingtom mouse that I've tried so far.

Pay particular attention to the max resolution and refresh rates supported. Also, consider a KVM with DVI ports in place of or in addition to VGA ports and note if they are DVI digital or analog since the 2 are not compatible.
