Hello,

My keyboard stopped working at boot/bios although it works fine in windows. Before it stopped working two things happened, I changed the boot to boot directly into usb to test out a windows install on usb and I also noticed the dvd drive was first in boot priority so I changed it hard drive first and drive second and i was using a virtual machine operating system on windows. I doubt the virtual operating system had anything to do with it.

I went to reset the computer to go into a different installed windows and it wouldn't let me use the keyboard. There is nothing wrong with the keyboard, otherwise it wouldn't be working now. Maybe I changed bios setting for legacy usb by accident? Would a keyboard just randomnly stop working for startup? I didn't change the port it was plugged into either and I tried different ports and its in usb 2.0 port now.

how about some hardware specs? start with the motherboard make and model.

I've seen with some bios updates the USB ports would be disabled on boot, I had this problem before and could not install or press a key on keyboard upon boot to install windows or so. It gave me a scare so I reverted back to pre-bios or a newer ver. and that fixed it.

I try a ps/2 to usb adapter or reset cmos. Maybe when I changed the boot settings that messed up usb legacy options

Ultra fast boot enabled? If so it will skip loading certain drivers. Try switching to fast.

I had similar situation a while back ... and it recurs now and then. Sometimes I could simply pull the cable out of the port and put it back in... other times I had to reboot. Randomly happened for about 3 -4 months every 10 days or so even in windows. Then it disappeared as strangely as arrived.

Reset your BIOS and it will work again.

How to reset the bios? You mean with cmos. or just reset settings with ps/2 adapter. ultra boot is enabled but it always has been.

Load optimized defaults in bios or use clear cmos jumper. Have you tried using 3.0 port. Or just disable ultra fast boot from windows (gigabyte has a tool for this), check your manufacturer's site if they have one.

window 10? i encounter such slimiliar issue like yours back inday, this is also a reason i stick with 1803 rev, but i did acidently update to 1903 last month and it work just fine anyway, not sure which rev tho:)

use clear cmos jumper
This. Reset the BIOS settings with the jumper on your board. This will default all settings to their "get along gang" mode and you'll get mouse/keyboard functions back.

I have a gigabyte asorus pro , I downloaded the fastboot utility. won't load. installed app center, says it requires a signed driver and won't load an unsigned driver

I have windows 7 and windows 10 installed , i can only boot into windows 7 now since i cant choose windows 10

I tried usb 3.0 , i tried all the usb ports basically

I can use ps/2 right, my motherboard has this. I can get a ps2/ to usb adapter

Open the PC's case.
Then use the CLR CMOS jumper to reset the BIOS.
Reboot.

Also, go to your user TPU forum control panel and fill out all of your system specs, so we'll know what you have in the system.
This makes a difference to good tech support.

I know this is an old post now but I fixed it lol. It was on ultra fast boot, I must have turned it on by accident and it would not load usb or even ps/2. Its automatically disabled. I had to reset the battery. I think disabling usb for bios is stupid, how do they expect you to access the bios. It seems absurd to have to reset the battery.

It skips loading some of the drivers, that's why keyboard might be working but not the mouse (but it would probably work in 3.0 port) . Usually there's a windows utility that let's you force boot into uefi. I've disabled fast boot recently as shutdown not being an actual shutdown was a disaster asking to happen if you plan to swap some component.

the gigabyte utility wouldn't work. and the keyboard wasnt working , i dont know about the mouse. the manual says it shuts down ps/2 usb ports for ultra fast boot.

Any time you get a new motherboard always read the manual.
