Hi guys!

I have a 2TB KC3000 as my main system drive installed in my X570 Hero in the first M.2 slot with the mobo included heatsink installed. I have peeled the plastic off the thermal pad. Ever since I had the drive in my system the drive temperature 3 sensor reports a constant temperature of 78 celsius. Is my unit defective?
The other temp sensor seems to be fine and reports temps just fine. I checked with AIDA and HWinfo but I see the same temperatures being reported. Should I RMA the drive or is this supposed be normal?

no its not defective. my kc3000 reports this constant temp too... i think mine is less than 78 though

the first drive temp where it says 55 thats the only one to focus on, it should change based on use case
if you dont have a heatsink they really cheapy to buy one. my temps never go over like 40 celsius even when i game on it.

Thanks for confirming, The first temp is fine, it changes depending on load, it was just a bit weird seeing the other one being stuck, I ran a few benchmark runs and performance didn't decrease so I guess the controller is not cooking itself, that's what I was worried about.

I have ordered a cheap but pretty well reviewed heatsink from aliexpress for both of my SSDs, don't really like that both of my NVME drives idle at 50-55 celcius

oh yeah, your idle will drop a lot once you get the heatsink installed.

No - the drive is fine - RMA is not needed.

I think also the temp value is the usual reported temp value. Maybe the 75 degrees are from an internal sensors in the chip itself and not from the air temperature.

Just for information.

I updated a few hours ago the firmware for my KC3000 2TB. That only works in windows 11 pro.

The spare values are the same as what i saw a few hours ago in windows 11 pro.

Note, 25 minutes uptime - no load - 2 am in the night in summer:
Temperature Sensor 2: 75 Celsius
Temperature: 28 Celsius

Infrared Thermometer claims the wall and top floor has 25.4 Celsius.

sensors claims the same for the KC3000
Code:
nvme-pci-0400
Adapter: PCI adapter
Composite: +27.9°C (low = -20.1°C, high = +83.8°C)
                       (crit = +88.8°C)
Sensor 2: +74.8°C

The Glas side panel has 26 degrees. This nvme is in the lower slot. The room Temperature was written above. It's impossible to be 2 degrees below room temperature:

I would not trust much these cheap nvme sensors.
Model Number: Corsair MP600 PRO

as long as they slap a heatsink on it is main thing, i wouldn't want to run my kc3000 without a heatsink personally, once that is done, just enjoy.
