I recently 'recommended' this laptop for a friend who works offshore:

http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/p...px/laptop_studio_17?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs

It comes with ATI's HD3650 Mobility Radeon gfx card.

WE got the laptop, fired up some old games that it should be able to handle ok.....V-synch never worked on any of the games and even DVD's would tear now and then. Spent approx 1.5 hours on phone to Indian call centre...eventually, engineer comes out and replaces mobo etc without even checking what problem was. When friend got back from work...V-synch still did not work

Its not an expensive laptop but its not a cheap laptop either. Is lack of V-synch 'normal' for laptops with dedicated gfx cards or is this just one faulty sonofabitch of a laptop?

What is the refresh rate of the screen? What is it set now? Perhaps update the graphic drivers.

Advertised as 60Hz.....states 61HZ in CCC.....

Yeah...updated all the drivers......

Do you have a laptop?

If so...does your dedicated 3d card V-synch?

C'Mon Folks...

Anyone got a laptop for gaming on?

Can you does or does you cant have V-Synch enabled?

Mine handles V-Sync just fine with dual 7900GS's. What did Dell say about the possibility of the card being bad?

SLI laptops?

Never heard of that.

Dell said they would send an Engineer out to fix the problem. He swapped mobo (gfx chip built into it) and the engineer on his crappy piece rate pay did just that and fucked off right after...

Fixed Nothing...

I suspect the solution is going to be to just RMA the piece of crap for a full refund. A 3d card that dont V-Synch is just a waste of everybodys time.

Umm yeah Dell has some top end SLI lappys(Dell XPS M1730), mines an overpriced AW. Most highend lappy boards have a slot to replace the gpu just like a full desktop board.

I would suggest just return it for a refund/new exchange. Sorry cat, hopefully you can get hooked up in the near future.
