It is about 14-16 hours long without getting all the statues and using Artmoney for infinite health. At least an hour of that is getting momentarily stuck on a task I couldn't figure out how to proceed.

Pros
-The graphics are much improved over Magna Cum Laude (lots of shadows).
-There's a lot of catchy, tinseltown tunes in there (reminds me of The Movies by Lionhead Studio).
-There's definitely a lot of Leisure Suit Larry features in here including the dirty jokes, the huge chests, and the like.
-It runs on Unreal Engine 3.
-No crashes.
-An A-list cast including David Atell, Tom Arnold, Carmen Electra, and Patrick Warburton.

Cons
-It is very deserving of that "Mature" rating. Definitely for the 17+ due to language and sexual themes. Minimal nudity though--the only thing stopping it from being an "Adults Only" game.
-There's some performance issues where the frame rates clearly drop but so far, none of them have been more than a minor inconvenience. It doesn't interfere with game play like in Saints Row 2, for example.
-The mouse sensitivity is whack. Sometimes it is too fast, sometimes it is too slow, and sometimes it moves to positions that disorient me. Overall, it doesn't bother me too much.
-Sometimes you have to push these key combos but the diagrams it shows are "Action 1-6." Since those numbers really don't mean anything to me, it is very hard to figure out which key to push when. What I end up doing is reassigning the action keys to the numbers 1-6 and then reassigning them to my normal keys afterwards. Again, nothing major, just an inconvenience.
-Things are relatively repetitive early on but it really isn't bothering me. Magna Cum Laude isn't much more repetitive than this so I don't have a problem with it.
-Combat is bad. You often face three opponents at a time and they do a lot more more damage to you than you can to them. Not to mention, the controls aren't responsive due to attacks taking a long time and it relies on two key combos that often don't work when most needed. There are 4 unused action keys during combat, WTF didn't they use one of those instead!?!
-It doesn't autosave often enough causing me to repeat a lot of long parts of the game.
-There is an occasional voice censor beep but it doesn't make sense why it is there considering I've heard the F-word used quite a few times. Maybe the bleep out swear words from non-cutscense to keep an Ao rating at bay?

The Verdict
I give it a 5 out 10 for the following deductions:
-1 rating deducted because of the bad controls (not PC friendly at all).
-1 rating for unbalanced combat difficulty.
-1 rating for poor view point perspective (either the camera moving when it shouldn't--e.g. trying to tightrope walk--or the camera being fixed in a place that leaves you clueless as to what is going on around you--e.g. in the barn jumping on a moving haybail).
-1 rating for no autosave points before difficult tasks.
-0.75 point for repetitive nature (not Far Cry 2 bad but it could use some improvement).
-0.25 point for only being available to the 17+ group.

The bad news is the first four must be fixed before I would recommend buying it. The good news is they are relatively easy to fix so a patch just might turn this into a good game.

nice ill have to try it out....I actually got LSL Magna Cum Laude lying around too might give it a run for kicks

I updated my first post with several important changes. I wouldn't recommend buying it just yet but I don't think it is as horrible as GameSpot and the like rate it. It isn't an epic fail--just has some gameplay mechanics to sort out.

lol, this game is still around? I remember playing this many, many moons ago ...

Much to the original author's (Al Lowe) dismay. He apparently sold the rights to the game back in the 1990's and has hated every sequel since (Magna Cum Laude and Box Office Bust) because he didn't have any involvement in them.

They should have made this game more realistic and more Hardcore, the first ones definitley had story lines for adults, magna cum lude and this one seem like lame kids games,
there should be more drug usage, whores that you can do what you want with and it should be more realistic ect......
Full nudity is essantial for a game like this
The game is lame

:banghead:

It shows.

I think I'll find my LSL 7: Love For Sail disc and play it through.

LSL hasn't ever had full shown nudity on release I don't believe, and it did just fine when AL Lowe was in charge. I remember playing the first one when it came out. Sierra Games were top of the line back then.

How exactly would drugs/nudity make it better outside of giving a 14 year old mind a few giggles at cartoon boobies?

Gamespot hated this game so bad.

You could see the hookers boobs in the very first game...

Haha! pixelated square boobies

I've never played any game in the series; might have to give this a shot.

There's nothing wrong about Magna Cum Laude except for some of the things you have to do (like timed key combos on a trampeline) were excessively difficult. On the other hand, Box Office Bust has a lot of gameplay related problems that constantly rear their ugly head. At this point, I would recommend Magna Cum Laude and not Box Office Bust.

Edit: I should say Artmoney is the only reason I got as far as I did. On about the third combat scene, which I deemed impossible after about six attempts, I used artmoney to give Larry some 5000 hit points making him practically invincible. I've used that many times to spare me of the frustration. For anyone that's interested, Larry at full health has a value of 100 and it is a 4 byte integer. It was at 0x26A8E2D8 for me.
