Hey, as u from my other posts know, im trying to get max performance from my old buddy y50-70. After doing some changes to laptop (cutting case for more airflow lmao, changing paste to liquid metal and disabling any power and thermal throttling) ive got a little problem: battery discharging while gaming on power supply. The original psu have 135W max. Battery is new. Does anybody know what psu with more power i can use?
Here is some photos from benching and my stable clocks on gtx 960m (unlocked limits)
Specs:
Gtx 960m
I7 4720hq
16gb ram 1600mhz
Thanks

Sorry, I can't help you with that, but I'd like to know which drivers you're using. The one from Nvidia causes BSOD, while the Intel one from Lenovo just crashes from time to time.

Here's a list of chargers over 140 W. It's in german, but at least it gives you part numbers to search for. I don't know if they will work with that laptop, but several of them have the same plug.

A heads up on chargers, I see some 170 W models being rated as 6,75 A, that can't be right. My 135 W is 6.75 A.

The 170 W model should be 8.5 A (170W / 20V), like this one.

Then you still have to find out if it works, somehow. Some stores can help you with that.

There's also a 230 W model.

I don't have a picture of it, haven't seen it since I changed drivers. The driver keeps on crashing tho, Intel I guess, and won't work with OBS Studio.

Can you give me the Intel graphics driver version number you're using?

Intel graphics version: 20.19.15.5171

Yep my 135 is 6.75 A too. I dunno if there will be any problems with a psu with more amps and watts...

Forgot to answer. I'd say no, the electronics in the laptop will limit the power input, just like you can put a 1600 W PSU in any computer.
The thing is tho that it's impossible to know if the laptop actually can utilize a higher power charger without testing.

The hardware manual shows that the 135 W charger is the model with the highest power used, so who knows what would happen with a 170 W model. What if it can only use like 140 W max?

You can try a 'max spec' Wattage brick but, in my experience...
99+% chance that the 18-20VDC input power stages in the laptop cannot fully power the 'unchained' hardware, period.

I did basically the same thing to an R5 3600u Acer Aspire laptop. (even swapped-in the Nitro's HSF and put in a 1080P IPS screen)
Once 'un-detuned', it would draw-down on the battery no matter what AC-DC brick I had attached.

There's no easy/simple way to work around the issue, in my experience.
Anything I could think up to fix the problem, introduced even more complications and removed any semblance of 'portability'.

IMHO, set it back to 'stock' and have them enjoy it as-is; knowing that running cooler will make it last even longer.
