I'm starting to get sick and tired of people demonizing Linux.

I found one candidate so far:

Vengeance

I don't understand what you are talking about? Most people seem to give the thumbs up to Linux. Linux Mint in particular has been great to me, played a few Steam games on it just fine.

I don't play multi or competitive though, is that what you are referring to?

Yes, multi.

I've been looking to see how hard it would be to play FFXIV mmo on Linux Mint, I think I would have to use Wine, which I have no idea how to do. Would you recommend its worth trying or should I just keep a separate windows install for that game?

I dunno, but Square Enix doesn't seem as likely to issue bans for going to Linux. They, TMK, are not banning ReShade, which makes me happy!

In most cases, I will not touch ReShade or any forks of it on most late games. Because the anti-cheat software, especially third-party anti-cheat software, appears to get mega-triggered. :(

Now more good news, Halo Infinite's got pretty much everything for ultra-modern graphics hardware. There is ambient-occlusion and most recently, some ray-tracing!
Its HDR is excellent, based on the results I get on the test screen for its HDR calibration tool.

and yet none of these things are but a minor annoyance to the (dedicated) cheater.

it's as ol' ben franklin said about sacrificing freedom for safety ...

It is listed as working in Proton on the steam deck, so it might work on Mint if you are running Steam with Proton.
ProtonDB | Game Details for FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

If you have any questions on a game that you want to run on Linux, I would check the Proton DB first.

Did you just tell me I can play FFXIV from anywhere I want if I get a Steam Deck.

Fuck.

Fuck.

Ok, I am probably ordering a Steam Deck now. In bed all cozy... just playing FFXIV... in my backyard on a nice day on the big swing/lounge chair... this is a game changer haha

Just wish it was an OLED screen, but I am not waiting 3 years for Steam Deck 2. might as well just get it now
